Betty Pass

December 12, 2024

Betty Pass, 86, of Oneonta, passed away on Nov. 20, 2024. She was born in Blount County in 1937 to Coy Blackwood and Theresa Louise (Lochamy) Black- wood. She graduated from Cleveland School in 1955, then attended the University of Alabama, studying nursing. Throughout her time at Cleveland School, she attended Cleveland First Baptist Church, where she met Arnold Pass. One day, when she needed a ride home from church, Arnold charmed her with his chivalry by driving her home. They dated for a year, with Betty cheering at Arnold’s semi-professional baseball games. In 1959, they married and built their home in Cleveland.
She was a life-long fan of the University of Ala- bama and passed that down to her daughter Char- lotte. She always showed an interest in and love for nieces and nephews and their children in all of their endeavors. She always offered a welcoming ear for their latest life events.
Betty began working at Hayes International/Pem- co Aeroplex/Alabama Aviation in 1958, worked her way up to being a Material Control Monitor and fo- cusing on military contracts, and retired in 2008 after providing 50 years of service. Explaining her reason for not retiring sooner, she replied, “I can’t quit. I run the place.”
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Arnold, her daughter Charlotte (Charlie Green), and her sister Connie (Edsel Vaughn), along with a mul- titude of cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Jerry (Patsy Clements), Charlie (Faye Owen), Weldon “Dump” (Linda Fowler), Scott “Kenny,” and sister Jan (Clark Braman).
The family received friends on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2024, at Lemley Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. A funeral service was held in the Chapel at 11:15 a.m. with Edwin Hayes presiding. Entombment fol- lowed in Oak Hill Cemetery Mausoleum.
Asked to serve as pallbearers were Steve Pass, Brent Pass, Wayne Brown, Benny Brown, Matt Ellis, and John Reed.
In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made in her memory to Big Oak Ranch. Donations can be mailed to 6000 Shelley Drive, Springville, AL. 35146. Lemley Funeral Home is honored to serve this family.
