Joe Glasscox
April 24, 2026
Joe Glasscox, 91, of Oneonta, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family April 10, 2026.
Joe was born in Cleveland to Speaker Walker Glasscox and Travis Glasscox. He was raised on Pine Mountain alongside his siblings where he learned the value of hard work at an early age, farming with his family and developing a work ethic that would define his entire life.
He later purchased his own farm on Pine Mountain, where he and his beloved wife Carolyn built a life together and shared nearly 60 wonderful years of marriage.
Joe was a devoted husband to Carolyn and father to Jody. His family was the center of his world, and he took great pride in caring for and providing for those he loved. He was a steady presence, offering strength, guidance, and quiet wisdom.
A man of deep faith, Joe loved the Lord and was a faithful member and Deacon of Lee’s Chapel Methodist Church. His life reflected his beliefs through kindness, humility, and service to others. He was also deeply connected to his community, always willing to lend a helping hand, share his time, or offer support wherever it was needed.
Joe was known as an exceptionally hard worker. He dedicated 49 years and 7 months of service as a maintenance welder at ABC Coke in Tarrant City, where he was respected for his skill, reliability, and commitment.
Quail hunting was Joe’s passion. He treasured the time spent bird hunting with his brothers, friends, and his nephew. Shortly after he and Carolyn were married, Joe shared a story about reading an article of a man who had passed away while bird hunting in the woods, saying that was how he would want to go — doing what he loved most.
Joe also loved football, especially Alabama football, and was proud to have been a member of the Blount County High School 1951 State Championship team.
He is survived by his loving wife Carolyn Cooper Faulkner Glasscox; his brothers Paul Glasscox, Ellie (Dana) Glasscox, and Caroll Glasscox; his sisters-in-law Norma LaRue, Debbie Glasscox, and Polly Glasscox; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who will cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Jody Glasscox; his brothers Charles Glasscox, T.C. Glasscox, Jr., Woodrow Glasscox, his twin Jack Glasscox, Clyde Glasscox, and Bob Glasscox; and his sisters Ethel Stephenson, Marie Bullard, Margaret Henderson, Mable Tyler, and Annette Phillips.
Funeral services were held at Lemley Funeral Chapel Monday, April 13 at 11 a.m., with burial following at Lee’s Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery on Pine Mountain. The family received friends from 10 a.m. until service time. Barry Hallman and Ron Howard officiated.
Pallbearers were Mike LaRue, Cameron LaRue, Dominic LaRue, Rusty Ashworth, Ellie Glasscox, and Jonathan Glasscox. Honorary Pallbearers were Hudson Ashworth, Ryder Ashworth.
Joe’s legacy of faith, hard work, and devotion to his family, his community, and the things he loved will live on in all who knew him.
