Jean Blackwell Woods
March 11, 2026
c, age 69, of Remlap, passed away peacefully in her home March 1, 2026.
Jean was born Aug. 17, 1956, in Birmingham to Bill and Effie Blackwell. On June 7, 1975, she married the love of her life, Ronald “Ronnie” E. Woods, and they made their home in Remlap where they have resided ever since.
Jean was self-employed throughout her working years and retired in 2012 when she and Ronnie sold their business.
In retirement, she embraced her many creative passions. She enjoyed learning to make beautiful decorated cookies and other baked goods and was known as a wonderful cook. She also loved spending time at her sewing machine, creating memorable T-shirt quilts and carefully repairing vintage quilts so they could be enjoyed again.
Jean was a Master Barbecue Judge and looked forward to spending her Saturdays attending barbecue competitions, a role she truly enjoyed. One of her favorite pastimes was researching family history, patiently piecing together generations through Ancestry.com.
Surviving family members include her loving husband of 50 years Ronald “Ronnie” E. Woods; her children Barbara Woods (Jay) Sanders and Barrie E. (Kellie) Woods ; her mother Effie Averett Blackwell; her brother William Terry (Peggy) Blackwell ; and her grandchildren Grace Sanders, Graham (Maggie) Woods, TJ Sanders, and Eli Sanders.
She was preceded in death by her father, William “Bill” P. Blackwell.
Jean will be remembered for her creativity, her generosity, and the quiet care she showed through the things she made and the people she loved. Whether in the kitchen, at her sewing machine, or surrounded by family, she found joy in creating something meaningful for others. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the traditions she shared, and the love she gave so freely.
Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at Lemley Funeral Home, and 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Pine Mountain Community Church with funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. Graveside followed at County Line Cemetery.
