Edward Ray Hinderliter Sr, 76, passed away on Febr.28, 2025 in Birmingham, Ala. Ed was born Nov. 24, 1948 in Decatur, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents Victor and Helene Hinderliter and sister Delaine Sandra Hinderliter; he is survived by children Breanna (Joe) Yeager, Edward Ray Hinderliter Jr, and Skylar (Seth) Davis, and grandson Bennett Cole Yeager.

Ed worked many jobs throughout his life, but his favorite was being a traveling shoe salesman, a role that allowed him to meet people from all walks of life. He was also an enthusiastic writer and painter with a special love for horse racing, football, automobiles, smoking barbecue, and collecting menus. He had the ability to tell stories that captivated everyone around him, always ready with a joke or witty observation.
He could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere- the doctor’s office to the grocery store. Anyone who knows him can easily recall his ability to make them laugh, as well as entertain an educated thought. Ed's humor, intelligence, and charm will be missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of Ed’s life will be Saturday, March 8 at 11 a.m. at McCay Senior Gardens in Oneonta, Ala. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his honor to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, or simply share a good story in his memory.
