Janice S. Sloan, age 79, of Rosa, passed away on Feb. 21, 2025, at UAB St. Vincent’s East, surrounded by her family.
Janice was a proud member of Rosa Methodist Church. Her life was filled with her loving husband Ronnie and her four wonderful children. Mrs. Sloan enjoyed baking cakes for her family, sewing Halloween costumes for her grandchildren, and even made numerous dresses. Janice was known as “Maw Maw”. She had a beautiful soul and would extend her resources and love to anyone in need.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 44 years Benny Ronald “Ronnie” Sloan; parents Jack and Odie Smith; brothers Jack W., Jeff W., and Jimmy W. Smith; brother-in-law Clifford Richie Sloan; father-in-law Eaphrom Cepius “Jake” Sloan, and mother-in-law Ophia Roberta Sloan.
She is survived by her children Jodie Means (Richard), Jackie Wix (Harold), Brandie Thomason (Toby), and Jacob Sloan (Allison); 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; brothers Joe W. and Jessie W. Smith (Jan); sister-in-law Nancy Ellis (HC); a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
The family received friends on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2025, at Lemley Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
A funeral service was held on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2025, at Lemley Funeral Home beginning at 2 p.m. with Randy Hale presiding. Burial followed in Dailey’s Chapel Cemetery. Asked to serve as pallbearers were Billy Glass, Adam Glass, Anderson Sloan, Travis Glass, Chris Wade, Benjamin Callahan, and Alex Wood.
