It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Billy Joe Sherrer, who left this world on Feb. 18, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on June 6, 1932, in Blount County, Ala., Billy Joe lived a life full of love, laughter, and devotion to his family and community.
Billy Joe was the cherished son of Henry Grady Sherrer and Eunice Irene Timmerman Sherrer. He was preceded in death by both of his loving parents, his beloved wife of 73 years, Bonnie Ruth Sherrer, and his brothers Ray, Howard, J.D., James, Junior, Bobby Lee Sherrer, and son-in-law Albert Palmer.
Billy Joe is survived by his son, Michael Joe Sherrer and his wife, Tracy; his daughters, Bonnie Jo Palmer and Vicki Hayes, who is married to Marty; and a loving legacy of grandchildren: Tyler Hayes (Katie), Devin Sherrer, Hayden Hayes (Jessica), Kaley Hollingsworth (Caleb), and Alex Sherrer. He also took immense joy in his great-grandchildren, Audri, Peyton, and Hallie Jo Hayes. Additionally, Billy Joe leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and countless friends who were touched by his kindness and generosity.
Friends and family were invited to celebrate Billy Joe’s remarkable life on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2025. A visitation was held from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Blount County/Cleveland Funeral Home Chapel, located at 17885 State Highway 160, Cleveland, AL. The funeral service followed at 3 p.m., officiated by Bro. Randy Sherrer, burial took place at Mt. Joy Cemetery in Cleveland, Ala.His pallbearers were Tyler Hayes, Hayden Hayes, Alex Sherrer, Michael Earl, Phillip Pate, and Greg Cornelius.
Billy Joe Sherrer will be remembered for his unwavering love, boundless generosity, and the joy he brought to those around him. Though he has departed from this earthly realm, his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Rest in peace, Billy Joe. You will be dearly missed.
