Hugh Cole Lovell

Hugh Cole Lovell, Jr. age 97, of Oneonta, passed away on Feb. 19, 2025.

Hugh was a member of Rosa Methodist Church. He signed with the Detroit Tigers after serving in the United State Marines and went on to work for and retire from the Birmingham Fire Department. He loved golfing, fishing, and gardening, but most of all he loved his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Nell Ferguson Lovell; parents Hugh Cole, Sr. and Valentine Chalvet Lovell; brothers Ralph Creel and Adrian Lovell; sisters Louise Counts, Margaret Lovell, Mildred Hyden.

He is survived by his daughter Denise Faust (Bruce); grandsons Jason Faust (Beth) and Evan Faust (Kayla); great-granddaughters Sara Beth and Abby Faust; sister Mary Pratt Blankenhorn; and several nieces and nephews. 

The family received friends Sunday, Feb. 23, 2025, at Lemley Funeral Home from noon until 1 p.m. A funeral service was held in the chapel beginning at 1 p.m. with Jerry Gargus presiding. Burial followed in Elmwood Cemetery.

2 Corinthians 5:8 "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord."
