Alfred Davenport

Alfred Davenport, age 93, passed peacefully in his sleep early Saturday morning Dec. 7, 2024.

Alfred was a lifelong resident of the Tait's Gap community in Oneonta. He was born on Jan. 22, 1931, to parents Dalton Newt Davenport and Fanny Mae Dillard. With the exception of his 3 year service in the United States Navy, he lived his entire life in the community where he was born.

Alfred was preceded in death by the love of his life Bonnie Williams, his parents, brothers Clarence, JD and Ralph Davenport, and sisters Nell and twins Dera and Dena.

Although Alfred and Bonnie never had children of their own they leave behind 4 generations of nieces and nephews, 85 to 3 years of age, that all will terribly miss and have loving memories of their Uncle Al.

The family received friends on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2024, at Lemley Funeral Home from 5 until 7 p.m.

Alfred lay in state at Lemley Funeral Home on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2024, from 1 until 2 p.m.. A funeral service was held in the Chapel beginning at 2 p.m. with Bro. Greg Gilliland presiding. Burial followed in Altoona Walnut Grove Cemetery. Asked to serve as pallbearers were Michael Hayes, Bailey Freeman, Stefanie Hammett, Chad Belchert, Mike McCay, and Stacy Sandlin.
