WAUDINE SIMMONS LAYFIELD, 98, of Cleveland, passed away on Aug. 29, 2024.

Waudine grew up in Springville, AL. and was a member of the Oneonta 2nd Baptist Church. She loved to sit at her kitchen table and drink black coffee while watching the hummingbirds. Waudine enjoyed reading, doing puzzles, playing games, and being with her family. She retired as Manager from the Paul Revere Shop and after retirement, she worked part-time as a greeter for Walmart. Waudine was a woman of God.

She is preceded in death by husband A.L. “Slue” Layfield; parents George B. and Cora Bell Cosby Simmons; son-in-law Wayne Ellis; granddaughter Candace Rice; brothers Robert, Lester, Odell, and Ray; sisters Odessa, Beatrice, and Harriet.

She is survived by daughters Linda Ellis, Gail Bynum (Bill), and Doris Wilson (Donny); grandsons Jeffrey Ellis (Candy) and Randy Bynum (Rachel); granddaughters Kristi Thomas, Amanda Bynum (Randy Peoples), Kendra Compton, and Brittny Glynn (Tim); great grandchildren Kala, Adam (Erica), Kourtney (Luke), Jessica (Adam), Katherine (Ethan), Cody (Taylor), Austin (Laney), Makenzie, Morgan (Mason), Graeson (Shiloh), Walker, William, Ryder, and August; great-great grandchildren Bethany, Joseph, Beaux, Harrison, Riggs, Ellis Kate, Ezekiel, Lanie, and Trey.

Services were held on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2024, at Lemley Funeral Home with Dale Young, Adam Thomas, and Jeff Ellis presiding. Burial followed in Mt. Joy Cemetery with Adam Thomas, Ethan Williams, Cody Bynum, Austin Roddam, Walker Bittle, William Bittle, Adam NeSmith, and (Honorary) Luke Floyd serving as pallbearers.
