John L. Baker

John L. Baker, born August 20, 1936, of Cleveland, Ala., passed away on July 23, 2024.

He was predeceased in death by his dearly beloved wife of 65 years, Joyce M. Baker, on July 2, 2024; parents, Luther Baker and Lillie Ware Baker; and his two sisters, Yula Baker Swafford and Leona Baker Gwinn.

He is survived by nieces, Ann Swafford Wiley, Sharon Gwinn Robertson, and Julia Gwinn; and nephews, Alan Swafford, Neil Gwinn, and Kenneth Gwinn.

John was a retiree of Alabama Power as an Electrical Engineer and enjoyed woodworking.

The family received friends on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at Lemley Funeral Home from 12:30 p.m. until 1 p.m. A funeral service was held in the Chapel beginning at 1 p.m. with Dr. Larry Gipson presiding. Burial followed in Mauldin Cemetery. Asked to serve as pallbearers were Alan Swafford, Steve Wilson, Mark Towns, and Christopher Longshore.
