Lillis Jones Avery

LILLIS JONES AVERY passed away on April 5, 2024. Lillis was born to Clarence and Edith King Jones on March 21, 1923, near Hendrix, Ala. Along with her parents, Lillis was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, James Russell Avery, two sisters, Lexie Jones and Faye White; a special niece, Pat Goodwin, who was like a daughter; and her son-in-law, Gordon Birkett.

She is survived by her three daughters: Valerie Avery-Birkett with whom she made her home and enjoyed her new community in Laneview, Va. since 2011; Jamie Magee, of Millsboro, Del.; and Andrea Evans (Kenneth) of Dagsboro, Del.; four grandsons, all of whom she was very proud: David Magee (Jill) of Georgetown, Del.; Douglas Magee (Katrina) of Concord, N.H.; Jeffrey Evans (Deby) of Milton, Del.; and Brandon Prince (Suzanne) of Miller's Tavern, Va.; five great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly: Derek Magee (Chelsea) of Millsboro, Del.; Marley Evans of Milton, Del.; Drew, Lexi and Will Magee of Concord, N.H.

She is also survived by three siblings, Vernie Holley, Gaynell Hullett and L.G. (Bud) Jones, all of Blount County, Ala. She enjoyed a life-time of loving relationships with friends and family, including her many nieces, nephews and their descendants, in both the Avery and Jones families.

In addition, she is survived by the Cash Family (family-of-heart) Gary and Vivian, her two godchildren, Gary Wayne (Candy) and Heather Foucher, and their four daughters, all of Michigan.

Brother Bric Latham and Brother Larry Holley will conduct the Funeral Service on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at 1 p.m. at The Chapel of The Snead Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Bethel Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Snead Funeral Home Sunday from 12 p.m. until funeral time.

Lillis was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Snead, Alabama and was an active associate member of Lebanon United Methodist Church in Virginia.
